The Importance Of An “About Me” Page

ADVERTISEMENTS

An about me page is one of the most important pages of a blog because readers need to know about the person who’s blog they are reading and what the blog is about. I have seen many blogs that do not have an about me page and some that use the default about page on a WordPress blog.

How to write an About me page

A good about me page describes about the author of the blog with at least one photo, his experience on the topic he is writing, what the blog is about, how visitors can contact the author and offers links to the encouraging the visitors to subscribe.

You may also link to your advertise page and other important pages and posts of your blog that you want your readers to visit. Also make sure that you link your About page on your blog’s main menu or in the sidebar where it can be found easily.

Check out this blog’s about me page for an example on how to write an about me page for your blog. A good about me page can help you convert your blog’s casual surfers to regular readers.

Have you put up an About me page for your blog or do you think that it’s not important to let your readers know who you are?

Good to see you back John. It must be a pain to deal with power cuts on a regular basis. What have you been doing to keep yourself busy in the meantime?

Good to see you back. With laptop all you get is max of 4-5 hours backup so why don’t you try to buy a small generator or get a UPS that can your laptop for around 8-9 hours?

Kevin- Yes, it’s so annoying when the power goes so often. I was not bored though as my cousins from USA were here with me after 4 years and my Nokia N73 kept me busy too :)

Shivaranjan- Laptops offer only 4-5 hours of backup? That’s too low :(

btw…are you talking about my new pic on my about page? Well the N73 is really keeping me busy ;)

Well, to be honest, I always thought about adding an about page to my blog but didn’t have the courage to. Maybe because I always thought that no one would be interested to read about the blog author.

Thanks for giving me the ‘reason’. I will definitely add one now.

PS: Awesome blog, I will make sure that I subscribe to your feed.

Great to see you back man.

I believe it is very important for a blogger to have an about page. It turns readers down if they can’t view any thing about the blogger.

I think the about page is pretty important and should have some really good info on it. It’s almost where you sell yourself as people go there to find out more about who they are reading. I just went through and redid mine a few weeks ago after only having a short blurb about me. I think it looks a lot better.

Wow – this article is timely! JohnTP, I noticed in the myBlogLog block on my site that your were the last visitor, so I went to check out your site (hadn’t been in awhile), and the first post on the (home) page was this one. I got to thinking, ‘what does my about page say, I’m pretty sure I set one up’, and when I checked, it turned out that I still had the default Wordpress ‘about’ page (like an idiot) – and never filled it in!

As always – thanks for the great article and tips. My About page is now re-done and informative thanks to you!

Yes, About page is one of the most important page on a blog. Whenever anyone, even me, goes to any blog first checks its About page so a professional About page matters.

And does the permalink slug to the About page also matters? I have seen about 90% of the blogs using the permalink example.com/about/ and they also get a great rank for there about page!

Wow, this is a great blog! I see all sorts of wonderful tricks within the articles and even within the site itself. Very nice job! –bookmarked–

Okay, I may be a bit late, but I want to comment anyway.

I personally never saw much importance in an about page – except for company/product/software/etc type sites. But for personal blogs, I don’t think I ever read them.

And my ‘about me’ page doesn’t really offer much info about me, I suppose because I like feeling slightly anonymous-y – where I can say what I want and no one REALLY knows who I am.

But then again, I guess if a blog did have an ‘about’ page that gave some insight as to who they were, people might feel more connected to them, rather than feeling like a stranger.

Anyone done a test with a blog with an “about me’ page and one without the page – to see the difference in how readers interact with the blogger?

Sign up for their publisher ads program…check under monetize tab of your feed. But you need around 500 subscribers to get accepted into it.

Thanks for your info on “About page”. I never thought this page got this much importance. I am searching for a very good picture of mine…

I completely agree with you mate. I regularly follow many blogs, and I have to say an About page is definately a necessaity if you want my trust. It’s nice to give users a clear idea of who exactly you are, and what your site is about. What you have to say, and why you’re saying it. A little background just supports the bond between the blogger and the end user.
