What is wrong with my PageRank?

ADVERTISEMENTS

My homepage has been stuck with PR 3 for sometime now. After the recent PageRank update, I found a lot of my pages having PR 5. But the homepage still remained PR 3.

I then contacted my friend Deep, who is good at Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and asked him the reason. After he analysed my site he says the problem may be because I am using extra Meta Tags that do not have value now. I removed the extra tags and reported it to Google.

These are the Meta Tags I used

I removed all these tags except the Description and Keywords ones. Deep said that one of this clients also face this same problem and he too has such extra unnecessary Meta tags.

Yesterday my friend Keith Dsouza let me know that https://johntp.com had PR 5 even though johntp.com still has PR 3.

Do you face any such problems with your site’s PageRank?

A very short list of the pages that got an increase in PageRank with the recent PR update.

I asked Deep about this, he replied

it’s because google is currently considering both as different sites. www as subdomain of johntp.com

Actually I had told you Meta tag issue because on one of my other sites i had faced the exactly same kind of problem. and that site had unwatned meta tags like revisit time etc..so my guess was, it is possible that some bug in google might be causing issue with a comobination lf meta tags.

But here in your case google is considering https://johntp.com and johntp.com as 2 different domains. This problem is temporary and should be fixed by next update or so.

I have the same problem my website http://www.mototips.com has a page rank of 3 and mototips.com has a page rank of 0. I know there is no content there right now and that is because i brought it down after the page rank update for a complete reconstruction. So I would like to know when this is going to be fixed also :(.

    Hi Madhur,

there are a bunch of extensions that you can use with mozilla that will give you the pr. You can also download the google toolbar and enable the pr ranking scale. I use an extension myself, but my site is still a 0. I just started it..

    John,

I liked the robot and revisit after tag. Did you delete those too?

John, I told you I was reading PR5 on your site almost a week ago. Not only did I tell you this, but we spoke about it together in your chat room.

My blog page has a pagerank of 0 while my index page (which is blank except for a redirect to my blog, and I’ve been meaning to change that actually) has a PR 4. Since there are about equal links to both URLs, shouldn’t my blog page have a higher PR?

    Congrats !

Your PR is now 5. Also, your Page Strength is 4.

I have had some really weird experience with Google PR. I would blog about that soon. My personal blog, with not even indexing in Google has just got its first PR and that too 4.

    :-)

We experienced a similar phenomenon. Our homepage had been a PR5 for many months and then the most recent PageRank update took it down to a PR3, but decided that one of our deeper pages was worth a PR6!

as i know, pr is based on how popular the page is. the more links back to the page, the more popular it is.

tony- Meta Tags had nothing to do with the PR problem. I removed them as they have less value now.

I am probably facing this PR problem because Google is considering https://johntp.com and https://johntp.com as two different domains. This problem is temporary and should be fixed by next update or so.

I earlier had 190 backlinks for https://johntp.com and 59 for https://johntp.com. With the latest Backlinks update, Google has added up both these and other backlinks and now I have 859 backlinks for https://johntp.com and 0 for https://johntp.com .

This might mean that by next update my PageRank problems shall be over :)
