Windows XP SP2 takes up a lot of space on our hard disks. My ‘Windows’ folder is almost 2 GB in size.

Here I show you how to gain some space by cleaning SP2.

During installation, SP2 will create a restore point. Restore points takes up a lot of space and can be cleaned by going to Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Cleanup and in ‘More Options’ click the bottom button to remove all but the most recent restore point.

I have been receiving a lot of spam lately so I decided to activate Akismet. Akismet is a plugin for WordPress that checks our comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not.

You need a WordPress.com API key to use this service.

The page file (virtual memory) is the part of your hard drive that the Operating System uses as though it were main memory. The OS uses virtual memory when the physical memory cannot hold the data that the application requires it to. Since hard drives are much slower as compared to RAM, accessing data from virtual memory is slower and there is naturally a significant effect on system performance. Moreover, Windows XP uses the virtual memory all the time, regardless of free physical memory, so optimization of the page file is essential for a faster system.

coComment is a simple Web 2.0 online tool made using Ajax, PHP and other languages. It lets you track your comments and lets your users to see the comments that you have made on other blogs.

You no longer have to load a post about 20 times to see whether another user has commented on it.

A new Gmail feature just announced allows you to chat with your friends from right inside Gmail. There’s no need to load a separate program or look up new addresses. It’s just one click to chat with the people you already email, as well as anyone on the Google Talk network. And now you can even save and search for chats in your Gmail account.

WordPress 2.0.1 has been released and has fixed a lot of bugs.

According to their page, they have closed 114 bugs since version 2.0.

To summarize:

• We can now specify an upload directory, and whether to use

  date-based storage or not.

• Caching has been fixed under certain PHP enviroments.
• Permalinks have been fixed for weird enviroments as well.
• XML-RPC uploading works.
• Compatibility with older versions of PHP.
• Several WYSIWYG fixes and cleanups.
• Imports now use much less memory.
• Now works with MySQL 5.0 in strict mode.

So what are we waiting for, let’s upgrade!

I have tried many Desktop Enhancing Softwares but I liked WindowBlinds the most.

When you install it, you will find that it already has a few cool skins like Simple Alpha,Airframe,Aura,Blackcomb and Dogmax4.

You can also download free skins from http://www.windowblinds.net/

If you have less than 256 MB RAM, I suggest that you don’t use WindowBlinds as it will reduce Windows overall performance.
