Another Way To Draw Attention To Your Best Posts
ADVERTISEMENTSYesterday I wrote on how you can use images to get your best posts noticed by your visitors. If you have too many posts that you want your new visitors to check out, either create many images and rotate them like Cybernetnews does or list out the text links in an organised way like you see on Problogger.net and FreelanceSwitch.
This can be done using DOMTab. There are instructions on the site on how to use it or you could read this post by Small Potato. The one problem I have noticed about DOMTab is that it will list all the links together while the page is loading.
Search JohnTP.com or view a random post

Hi. Thanks for the tip.
You can also get a widget to do this on spotplex http://www.spotplex.com/About

I find this useful, but only for blogs with a large database of pillar articles like Problogger.
Anyway, I should say that this is a nice little plugin.

The DOMTab author gives you a way to hide the content until the page is loaded.

I think it’s a good recycling method - very good since you still can promote your aged article.. info is info and info is gold

Alex King’s Popularity Contest is a nice plugin for displaying popular posts, but I don’t think you can choose to show only those popular in a given timeframe. And, perhaps annoyingly, you cannot exclude specific posts, which would be very useful if a boilerplate post gets too many visits because it ranks well in the SEs and is always top of the list.

John,
Great post. But I feel using accordion plugin from here http://www.spicyexpress.net/ge.....functions/ will be best bet instead of DOMTAB.

Without any doubts, i agree that the above mentioned method is one of the best way to draw attention of our visitors to the best posts.
I recently have done my new blog design. And if you can see at my blog, i tried to do something different as well. I titled them as “Favorite Posts”. It’s pretty visible as it is placed right beneath the header part.
However it requires lot of work. For a blog post to appear in “Favorite Posts”, i have to make the entry in a particular category. But i guess it’s worth the effort
