All I can say is .. yumm!!!

Come on, tasting the local food is one of the best ways of getting to know a country and its people. What’s the fun in just visiting monuments and temples? I wouldn’t eat dog meat since I own one, but scorpions and snake? Yup.

What looks disgusting to one culture appears normal to another culture.

When I was younger, I often heard “You can’t say you don’t like it until you at least try it”

..I’ll have to remember to show him some of these pictures and see if he changes his mind

One man’s food is another man’s poison. Though I personally would never ever try eating any of that - I still take offense to describing anybody’s food as ‘yuck’.

I’ve never been very adventurous in my culinary pursuits, so nothing in those pictures is anything I would ever try for myself. It is interesting how different everyone’s cultures and customs are from one another. I’m sure to some people out there in the world, french fries would be considered gross.

I guess some might really dig that stuff, but like a couple of the commmenters - most of that stuff really freaks me out! And even if it did taste good, I don’t know if I could get past the texture or appearance of most of those things. I guess I’m not an adventurous eater…

I dont understand how it is eatable when you have to open it, peal it, remove some parts and than you have just little peace of something what might be good. I think it is not worthy for me but Understand that for others it might be chalange.

well John, I agree with Brad & James above, what looks disgusting to one person maybe other’s delicacy!! while I might not eat those snakes, scorpions etc. since I don’t feel comfortable with the idea, I certainly will not “yuck” them. just think of it, some of our Indian food, the way its made make foreigners go “yuck” but then we who have tasted it know that its tasty! :)

When I’ve been to Beijing I ate jelly fish. I did not know what it was, until a colleague asked our Chinese hosts. I can tell you jelly fish tastes good, but I don’t know if I had tried it knowing what it was.

All this eating insects, rats etc originated from farmers who were so poor that they literally had to forage in the fields to look for food.

Every culture has its own food that’s gross to other cultures. I’m Chinese but from Singapore and I’m extremely conservative when it comes to food.

Basically I like my food not moving and not belonging to the insect family.

Thanks for linking my video from my trip to china. A lot of the food looked and smelled great and I would have tried some of it, but we just came from a big meal-I now lame excuse. Even still, much I don’t think I would have gambled on trying out.

Just a side note, not everyone in China eats all of these items. Many find them disgusting too or have their own local (within china)strange food they prefer. Just like any culture.

I have Iranian friends who are repulsed by the notion of eating peanut butter. Apparently they don’t have it there and it seems very bizarre to them.

I have a French friend who refuses to eat corn, too. She insists that in France only farm animals eat corn. Different places, different cuisines!

Well the scropions and snakes, silk worms, shrimp and crickets look interesting :)

Worth a try - and it seems I’m not the only one - what’s odd to Westeners may be acceptable even sacred to other cukltures and vice versa.
