How To Bring Back The Preview Frame In WordPress 2.2

ADVERTISEMENTS

In WordPress 2.2, the post preview frame (the frame at the bottom of the edit screen showing a preview of your post) was removed and replaced with a preview link. Though I prefer this new change due to the speed improvements in editing a post, some people do not like it.

For those who want do not like this change, there is a plugin to return the preview frame.

Installing the plugin is easy, just upload the preview-frame directory to your wp-content/plugins directory and activate it in the admin panel. The post previews will immediately start displaying when you edit posts.

Hmm… saw this before and I’ve installed it. Old habits die hard. Good to see the preview thing where it was before.

I haven’t upgraded to 2.2 since my theme is not compatible and I had some problems with that but I think this is a great plugin because we are all used to preview frame.

Well I could do without the preview though as it makes the edit screen load slower if you have lots of external scripts in you footer.

Nice to see the preview panel. Even the blogger has this feature, this should be made as an in-build feature instead of plugin.

As you said I am very satisfied with the faster load time without preview pane enabled.

With WP 2.2 whithout this plugin, the link to the preview open a new window with Firefox; Do you know a way to change this behaviour ?

At first the new preview feature bothered me but now I love it and wouldn’t have it any other way. Plus I use the pages plugin and with the preview window I could never click on the pages to preview them. However, now that everything opens up in another tab that problem is solved.

Now if I used IE6 where a new window must open up- that would bother me.

I don’t think I will upgrade to 2.2 for a while, just for that reason. I liked the preview window.
