How To Make Windows XP Look Like Vista

ADVERTISEMENTS

Those of you who are not using Windows Vista but still wish to get the Vista-style look on your Windows XP, should try out the Vista Transformation Pack. This freeware will help you transform your Windows user interface to look like Windows Vista.

Vista Transformation Pack

Vista Transformation Pack will replace many of the resources in Windows XP/Windows Server 2003.

It can change such things as:

  • Boot screen
  • Welcome Screen / Logon Screen
  • New msstyles files (visual styles)
  • New desktop and file icons
  • New toolbar icons
  • Progress Dialogs
  • Sounds scheme
  • System Tray icons
  • New Wallpapers
  • Windows Media Player Skins
  • And much more

I tried the Vista Transformation Pack before getting my hands on Windows Vista Ultimate and I was really satisfied with it. It gave me an idea of how Windows Vista will look like even before it was released.

That looks so real, must satisfy the eyes of people who don’t have vista :)
But for me Vista is not just about the design, I love it more for the features. But many people argue with me on that.

Looks interesting. Would definitely be useful to those who are satisfied with the functionality of Windows XP but would like the look and feel of Windows Vista.

To agree with Madhur, I find these types of programs sometimes mess up the Windows system files and if you’re a beginner and don’t know how to recover from such cirsumstances you could be in for a ride :)

My advise would be to Not use the transformation pack. As madhur said, it ruined certain system files the last time I used it and eventually my computer crashed in a few days. This happened though I followed precautions

Not sure how the latest version is, but when I tried it..it was a pain to remove it. I had to reinstall Windows. So proceed w/ caution.

Back up all important files and create a restore point before using the Transformation Pack.

I mentioned this on the Sciencetext blog in February, but certainly didn’t bother installing it myself. I really have no interest in adding yet another layer of stuff to my laptop that would surely only mess things up or at best slow things down.

I can see the makings of an easy scam to catch newbie PC users with though I wouldn’t recommend it, it would be fraud.

I have tried it before..It may look nice and great in the beginning as usual. But after a period of time, after installing many softwares, it may give problem(i am not sure whether it’s the transformation pack or oother software that caused the crash). I had problem booting the windows previously and ended up formatting the Windows.

I’m using StyleXP for some pleasant looks. window blinds is a bit heavy too.

It definitely messes up system files.. sometimes when you uninstall it, things like the font configurations, and others created by the pack don’t go off.

subhash- I always optimize my images to load faster, even on a dial-up connection these images should take only a few seconds to load.

Now that we can make windows XP look like Vista, then why should we pay extra $100 for Vista? :)

I’ve used the Transformation pack without incident. However, it does load quite a few things in the process and I have read about nightmares trying to remove it. Fortunately, a new work laptop came along before I had to deal with it. :)

he just bought a pentium core 2 duo with vista installed

yeah a pentium and a core 2 duo are two completely different CPU’s i think you meant an Intel Core 2 Duo which is a few generations ahead of a pentium

I tried this and it was great for the first day, until I tried to install other programs then my computer crashed on me. I thought it was the new programs that messed it up so I uninstalled them only to find that there were more problems. My mouse vanished from view, the style takes ages to load and it kept freezing and slowing down the computer. I had to uninstall it in the end and some features didn’t completely go away initially. It was the biggest hassle ever. It would have been much easier to buy Vista or stick to XP.

i feel like the pack causes crash with the system and tends to slow down the computer performance. After unnstalling it, everything seems to be back to normal.

yes, vista transformation is a mess on your computer. Better contended of what you have now than having transformation pack with lots of problems that can cause formatting on your windows.

My opinion is that vista is crap, to put it politely. Im sure you are all aware that microsoft have tried to copy Apple’s new OS and have cut too many corners. Love the dispay and icons of vista and thats all i want. XP is still better than vista by far but the display for vista is better. I did have this transformation pack installed but it made my computer run very slow, so if anyone has an alternative eg just the skins and icons, then please get in touch. .

    Cheers, Jamie

Wow, I just downloaded this transformation pack today and at first, it didnt look like it was going to work, or how it was going to be even real, but once I downloaded it, it was incredible. It really makes you feel like you have Windows Vista w/o buying a new comouter. And now all of my friends wont make fun of me because I have Windows 95, with the look of Vista!

I installed the vista trans pack and it works gr8.
I admid that it slows down your pc ONLY if u use the 3rd party software that came along with the pack especially the side bar. Don;t use them (sidebar, vstart menu, orb, Lclock). Without them, the pack is the coolest thing i ever had installed. Hope this post will help those who experienced slow performance after installing the pack.

Transformation Pack is really a mess.. I have installed it. and a pain in the ass for uninstalling all of its components. after you have installed it. it will already affect the speed of your computer. even after you have uninstall it. its like having an after shock of it.

This pack would be nice if only easy to use.Every time I downloaded the pack it would run fine for about a week then an error screen would appear and say the windows exe. file would be corrupt and needs to be replaced with another file.As soon as you allow it to you will get a blue screen. If you dont know how to manualy go in to the windows components and change the exe. file then please trust me its not worth it.You will have to reformat your hard drive and start xp all over.
