SEO Title Tag 2.0

ADVERTISEMENTS

SEO Title Tag is my favorite Search Engine Optimization plugin for WordPress and I recommend all WordPress users to install it. The plugin allows you to easily optimize the title tags across your WordPress-powered blog (for not just the single post pages and homepage) and since Title tags are one of the most important on-page factors for search engine optimization, this plugin can be very helpful.

A new version of SEO Title Tag was recently released and since I have blogged about this plugin earlier, I will just mention the new features of the plugin.

  • a Title Tag input box in the Edit Post and Write Post forms.
  • mass editing of title tags for all posts, static pages, category pages, tag pages, tag conjunction pages, archive by month pages
  • ability to define the title tag of 404 error pages
  • handles internal search result pages
  • when used with Ultimate Tag Warrior, let’s you customize the title tags on tag pages and on tag conjunction pages too
  • title tags of category pages can optionally be set to the category description

Some points to remember:

  • remove your blog name from single post pages
  • the title of a page must match the content inside it
  • for single post pages, it is best to just have the post name as the title and nothing else
  • keep your title short, don’t overload it with too many keywords as higher the number of keywords the smaller the value that will be given to each one of them
  • give a good description for your category pages

Mr.Byte- Install SEO Title Tag. Then go to Options > SEO Title Tag and select ‘No’ for Include blog name in titles.

Installation instructions for SEO Title Tag can be found here

I’ll have to check this out soon. I currently use optimal title and love it, but maybe this provides a little more. ;)

Hey, this is very useful. I did not know about this plugin; I did some changes to the code in order to obtain the same effect. It worked too, but your way would have been easier.

    Hey John,

We’re using Optimal Title and Tags in the Head.

SEO Title Tag 2.0 certainly sounds more flexible – though I’ve already mangled a bunch of our templates to make Optimal Title look just right on tag pages and everywhere else.

Do you think it’s worth changing from Optimal Title to SEO Title Tag 2.0?

    Thanks!
    Dan

I also recently started a wp-based blog and I immediately added that plugin, which I think is very useful. I also appreciate the “Top commentators” plugin.

Dan and Jennifer- I have not tried Optimal Title in a long time, but still I think SEO Title Tag is the better plugin.

    Cool, thanks John.

I guess I’ll try that module and see how it works for us.

We’re actually in the process of resurrecting our older personal growth & spirituality site and blogifying it (is that a word?) – so I’m taking that opportunity to try out the new Wordpress 2.1.2 and some other modules. That’ll be a good testbed for this as well.

So far the only one of our modules that isn’t working right off on 2.1.2 is the WASABI related posts one.

Of course we’ve gotten completely distracted from that with our YouTube video push – which was quite a handful but we’ve finally gotten past the major learning curve and to the fun part. :-)

    Have an awesome day!

As always, great information. I’m currently on Blogger but I’m jealous of all the Wordpress functionality I’m missing out on.
I’m curious about the statement “remove your blog name from single post pages”. Would someone explain what the concern is?

: for SEO, the weight that keywords have in the page title is important, so you don’t want to have a clutter of words there, if they are not necessary. Besides, it is more probable that people would search for specific things they need to know, not for your blog’s title, so you should not aim to optimize each and every page of your blog for the blog’s name.

Robert- Higher the number of keywords in the title the smaller the value that will be given to each one of them. So it is better to remove the blog name from the single post pages.

I would still Prefer using 1.0.Its good that you can modify a lot of things but then why not do it when you write a post.

We can do a lot of optimization while writing the post instead of editing it back with a plugin. Moreover the 404 page can be renamed very easily with a small 4 line of code.

I guess its really useful for people who don’t know much about programming.Sounds good

Nice plugin, I will install it right away.

I have made some changes to my title tags but manually, it is nice that there is a plugin for that.

I’m not sure how I’m going to keep up with all the cool WP plugins you talk about. :) I just moved over to Wordpress yesterday and have SEO Title Tag as one of my plugins. Time to go optimize some titles!

What exactly do you mean by ’single post pages’? Also, are you using this plugin at your blog?

    Thanks,

I’ve had this plugin installed on my Blog for quite a while now, but I had not had the time to go and update the title tags of the pages. Today, I finally sat down and updated all the Title tags for the pages. Hopefully I’ll see improved results on the Search Engines soon :)

Have something to say?
