How To Get Into Technorati’s Top 100 Favorited Blogs
ADVERTISEMENTSI have wondered many times on how hard it will be to get my blog to be one of the Top 100 Favorited Blogs in Technorati.
My curiosity increased when I saw a porn site on the 16th position of the Top 100 Favorited Blogs. So I thought if they can get that far, why can’t I?
So I started an experiment - I asked my readers to favorite my blog and favorited their blogs in return.
The post got good response (currently 108 comments) and also a few other bloggers started doing the same thing on their blogs too. And after 9 days, JohnTP.com became one of the Top 100 Favorited Blogs!
So it’s easy as that. And some people even thought I was begging to get favorited, well, Yes, I did ask my readers to add me but that was the only way to make this experiment successful.
So now, JohnTP.com is one of the Top 100 Favorited blogs. But I am sure Technorati is smarter than us and that they will fix it up very soon for the betterment of results.
My suggestion to Technorati team is that they should check in how much time a blog gets favorited and based on that they can have a better algorithm to allow blogs on Top 100 Favorited list.

It’s truth.
To be at top of any social-bookmarking sites like Digg.com, Technorati.com and even in netscape.com you got have a strong Democratic network. Its the way things are going there, otherwise you got to have big fanclub, which keep’s you up there.
Gr8 you made it.

sourcer - I don’t get much hits from Technorati. And Darren Rowse just let me know that he hardly ever gets a visitor from the Top 100 Favorites list even though his blog is the 7th most favorited Blog!
Ben H - Yes, I hope so too.

You are so right on with this statement…
“So now, JohnTP.com is one of the Top 100 Favorited blogs. But I am sure Technorati is smarter than us and that they will fix it up very soon for the betterment of results.”
however…I don’t think it’s a problem that you got into the Top 100, because if someone is reading your blog regularly, which obviously a majority of these people are, then why not favorite it. It’s not any different then joining a MyBlogLog community after someone has joined yours.
They just need to filter out adult sites or have favorited categories, with the adult section on another part of the site.

Is that brazil-girl-page just porn? If so, Technorati shall also ban them from their index. If not, what is it else?

Hi John,
I read your blog by chance while browsing Technorati (you posted about how to get to Technorati top 100 favorites, just a few minutes after I wrote about how to get to technorati top 100…Coincidence. And I started reading many of your other posts, until I realized I had already read one of them.
And today I see you made it to 9 rules.
Congrats. Good job.

I see the phrase “favorite it” a lot in this post. What is meant by it? Is John saying ask your readers to “bookmark” your site? Is that what he means?
I use DELICIOUS, and people can add me by clicking on it, if they have DELICIOUS that is.

Well, fortunately for me, or not fortunately depending on how one looks at it, there are not a lot of fitness blogs out there, which makes mine somewhat unique. At least my search for fitness blogs did not pull up many results.
The downside to that is the fact that it appears there is little interest in reading a fitness blog as well. So, grabbing the attention of people is going to be hard for me, which is a shame because my site is not bad. It’s actually pretty good.

What I mean is that most blogs are about nothing, and like the Seifeld show, that is what makes some of them so interesting. My blog is about something, which narrowly defines it, so my market is going to be narrow. I guess I am not going to have a very popular blog. LOL

I said this before in another comment. People become to obsessed with their Technorati rankings. If you’re writing for Bloggers (i.e. JohnTP, Problogger) then fine it makes sense to be ranked high but if your content is for the everyday joe shmoe or some type of niche then chances are they dont care about your rank.
Also, your rank on Technorati has almost nothing to do with how you rank on Google. My rank on Technorati sucks but on Google searches for my niche I come out on the first or second page of results. Sometimes even at the top of the first page of search results.
Another thing, here are three of many blogs in the top 50 of Technorati rank that have not been claimed:
http://technorati.com/blogs/http://www.gizmodo.com
http://technorati.com/blogs/ht.....hacker.com
http://technorati.com/blogs/http://instapundit.com
The fact that they are unclaimed means they don’t waste their time worrying about their rank on Technorati. Who knows they may not even know anything about Technorati.
So unless you’re writing for bloggers worry about your blog’s content instead of your Technorati rank.
BTW John, regarding your comment “I am sure Technorati is smarter than us and that they will fix it up very soon for the betterment of results.”
Whats so smart about automatically ranking blogs by the number of in-bound links they have. You just proved how easy it was to manipulate the system.
Just so you don’t get confused by my comment and think I am attacking you in any way, your blog is one of my top two favorites. Keep the posts coming!

my blog is 466,402 on Technorati´s rank, I think I should do something like that, but I have only 50 or 60 visits everyday, so I have a lot of work to do.

Well done - but worthwhile thinking about The Long Tail. Being high in the popularity stakes doesn’t always equate to success. Chasing customers is more important than chasing popularity votes. However, getting high ratings on Technorati shouldn’t be sniffed at.
