StumbleVideo: Video Referral Site Launched By StumbleUpon

ADVERTISEMENTS

Stumble VideoStumbleUpon is a browser toolbar that let’s you discover websites, videos, pictures, etc according to your interests. It has been such a hit that they are launching a separate site for video referral called StumbleVideo.

Just like StumbleUpon, StumbleVideo will let you find interesting videos but without a browser toolbar, i.e, it works within the browser itself.

Stumble Video Sample

No more keyword searches - just great videos! Stumble Video automatically finds and plays videos that match your interests. All you have to do is press Stumble! and rate the videos you watch. Stumble Video recommends great videos based on your ratings, and the ratings from other like-minded users. We’ll find the best videos on the web and play more for you that match your interests. It’s the same great technology that powers the StumbleUpon toolbar used by 1.6 million people.

Currently, StumbleVideo will serve videos from the top three video sites: YouTube, Google Video, and Myspace.

One of the things I liked about StumbleVideo is that it has nothing to distract you, all it has is videos and options that lets you find even more videos of your personal interests.

There are no banner ads or text links to get in your way. And all of the videos are brought to you one after the other - you never need to leave the page. Even better, the lights can be dimmed as the video starts and we’ve also added handy keyboard shortcuts. With an experience like this, you’ll never watch online videos the same way again.

StumbleVideo gives you 20 video categories to choose from. As you select your favorite category and play videos and give a thumbs up or a thumbs down, StumbleVideo will learn your interests and you will be able to easily find videos matching your interests by clicking the ‘Stumble’ Button (which is within the website itself).

In addition to discovering great videos, you can narrow down the channel to a particular interest. If you just want to see the best skydiving videos on the web, so be it. We’ll bring you one right after the other. As you Stumble, we get a better sense of what you like, bringing you the highest quality videos selected just for you. It’s your own personal video channel!

Users can also click on a triangle located in the bottom right portion of the screen showing which users watched and liked the same video. Also it has a ‘Share’ button which allows you to share videos with your friends.

Stumble Video Features

  • channel surf the best videos on the Web from the slick interface
  • you never need to leave the page as great videos are brought right to you
  • choose a particular channel to stumble within, or stumble a specific user
  • share what you find with your friend
  • save your favorites and access them from any computer
  • no registration or download required

My Thoughts

Just a few days back I was wondering of a way to stumble upon videos of a particular topic. Though StumbleUpon (SU) allows you to stumble videos, it does not do it for a particular topic. SU stumbles videos on all my interests like computers, astronomy and web designing together. But now with StumbleVideo I can stumble videos on just a particular interest of mine without getting distracted by anything else :)

Great idea by Stumble, but I just don’t if it will nearly as popular as their website toolbar, since most of the videos already prompt you to other random videos.

    But what do I know.

Very cool. I’m a big fan of StumbleUpon so I’m looking forward to making use of this new tool. However, Listikal has a good point about videos already suggesting others. The nice thing about this approach though is having it pull from three different video sources.
