Google Sitemaps Generator WordPress Plugin Updated

ADVERTISEMENTS

The Google Sitemaps Generator Plugin for WordPress that automatically generates a sitemap and helps in better indexing of all pages of your blog has been updated.

Recently Yahoo, Google and Microsoft joined hands to support a single format for Sitemaps. A Sitemap is an XML file that lists URLs for a site along with additional metadata about each URL so that search engines can more intelligently crawl the site. Sitemap 0.90 is now offered under the terms of the Attribution-ShareAlike Creative Commons License and Google, Yahoo!, and Microsoft will continue to collaborate on the protocol and publish enhancements on the jointly-maintained site at sitemaps.org.

Recently the author of the plugin updated the xml-namespace definitions in the new beta version of the XML-Sitemap Generator for WordPress Plugin as per the new sitemaps.org standard.

I’ve updated the xml-namespace definitions in the new beta version of my XML-Sitemap Generator for WordPress Plugin to the new sitemaps.org standard.

Some of the updates in the latest beta version are:

  • Fixed some smaller bugs
  • Decreased memory usage which should solve timeout and memory problems
  • Updated namespace to support YAHOO and MSN

Also, if you are using UTW (Ultimate Tag Warrior) check this addon to include your tag pages in the sitemap.

Hey thanks for the tip. I’ve been looking for a possibly easier solution than running the sitemap generator via a cronjob on the server. This looks like it might be it. Thanks.

Also might want to check out:

..for a visible user-sitemap. I think it helps (both types do) help with the search engines.

Ya, John I have sumbitted some of my sites sitmap there but not of my blog. It although give good information on keyword for which your site is being displayed in SE or for which keyword your site is being clicked. Also give info if there is some broken link or if bot is facing problem in indexing any page. But regarding Search engine position or indexing of page, I do not find it very useful.

John or whomever, do you have to rebuild your sitemap everytime you create a post? or is it just a recommendation?

listikal- The sitemap will be rebuilt automatically whenever you create a post. You just have to install the plugin and activate it :)

After a couple of weeks of indexing, I’ve noticed that my Tags still aren’t being indexed, even with the Tag plugin. Have any other ideas what might be causing this?
