Do You Apologize to Your Readers For Not Blogging?

ADVERTISEMENTS

Every blogger stops blogging once in a while, it could be because they wanted a break or maybe because they fell sick or was too busy. My question to you is - Do you apologize to your readers for not posting?

I know I have. I did a quick search and found 3 posts where I had done it.

1. Here I had mentioned about my short break in advance:

I am sorry to say that I will not be blogging much till the end of this month. I have a lot of work to do at present and need a short break. But I will be back as soon as I am free with lots of interesting posts for you.

2. Here I had stated the reason for not posting for a Week:

I am back…after being offline for more than 1 Week. And I am glad I am finally online. What happened?

It all started after my UPS battery became weak and I needed to replace it. Two days after I gave my UPS for repair I came to know that my UPS battery was an imported one and was not available at my place. The next day I bought a new UPS and found that my PC refused to start. Only today I found that the problem was caused due to overheating. So I cleaned my CPU fan and everything went well.

3. And here, as said by Vibhash, I blamed my cat for not posting a day ;)

Is it ok to put up a post just for apologizing to my readers?

On a personal blog, like mine, it is probably fine to put up a post just for apologizing to your readers (infact I feel this helps me get closer to my readers).

But on blogs that focus on a particular topic, it would be better if they apologized at the end of a valuable post as most readers just care about the content.

In their case - if they suddenly stopped posting for a while and then put up a post just for apologizing, it’s a sure way to lose readers!

Tip: You could hire a Guest Blogger when you want to take a break

So, have you apologized to your readers? Also do you think it is a good thing? As a reader, will you get annoyed with such a post?

Feel free to link to your posts (below in comments) where you have apologized to your readers for not posting :)

It depends on whether you’re blogging for your own pleasure or blogging to make money. I would apologize to my readers if I’m blogging for money because they are considered my customers :)

I would but not in straight words, instead I’d have a big come-back.

I have no reasons to do this. As long as I’m using WordPress I can set the date of publishing the post. So I can write 2 or 3 posts and set them to appear in the future.

In my short career as blogger I took a long vacation of around 20 days. Here I mentioned the reason of my vacation http://www.helloashok.com/pers.....-tehri/29/

But I don’t think it will be called apology.

You have posted some nice ideas John, but im not sure which one to use. I can’t really say that my blog is a personal blog, so i guess the idea of apologizing at the end of the post will be better for me!

But writing an apology at the end of the post doesn’t show sufficient care for your users….so i came up with a better idea.

what we can do is to write a normal apology post, followed by a new blog post for the users who just came to your blog for specific topics you write.

Well you have already linked to that blog, so i don’t need to post it here :)

Anyways I have posted my idea here-

I think you have to, especially if you have a lot of subscribed readers. They are definitely wondering for your lack of blogging.

It’s a very interesting question and I know I’ve certainly posted something explaining my lack of posting before even though readers don’t actually complain about the lack of updates.

I guess it’s some sort of unwritten rule, but I wonder if readers would expect an apology for not posting for a while?
