IE Trouble

ADVERTISEMENTS

When Microsoft released IE 7, I thought that all my IE problems would be over, but I was wrong. It just doubled…now I have to check my designs both in IE 6 and 7 as I have 30.63% of my traffic using IE 6 and 10.69% using IE 7.

Browser Version

After I designed my new theme, readers reported it to be completely messed up in IE 6 which I had not noticed as I had upgraded to IE 7. What do I do now?

Should I remove IE 7 and install IE 6? But I will have to check my design on IE 7 too as it may cause problems that IE 6 does not :(

I am very confused. What should I do?

Why don’t you install another OS in your PC and install IE 6 in that OS. I have two OS in my PC win98 and winxp, which help in solving these type problems.

Personally I think uninstall IE7 would be better than installing 2 OS just to get the old IE6 working. Is there any solutions on getting both IE6 and IE7 working together? I just thought of this problem today as well because I found that I have no way to check whether my template is working properly or not. I think there are websites providing services to check whether the site showing properly or not on various browsers. Please let me know if you found that ya~ hehe..

Maybe you could install a Virtual PC containing just Windows XP and IE6 for your tests. That way, you could also install other browsers like Opera without having to install it on your actual OS.

forget about IE6 - it will be almost history in just a couple of weeks when microsoft deploys it as a supercritical security update to all windows xp based installations (which are already and still the vast majority of all PCs on the net).

I’m still not sure whther IE7 is so much better than IE6, but at least I can now finally stop working around all the stupid errors in this stupid peace of bugridden software and focus on the things that matter, again ;)

Daily Blog Tips- BrowserShots takes a long time to deliver screenshots. So this is not a good solution for me.

I decided to remove IE 7 and install IE 6. I will upgrade to IE 7 again when I find that only few number of my visitors use IE 6.

I agree with JohnTP, Its not a good idea to use BrowserShots to check your blog template for cross-browser compatibility because it takes a lot of time to generate the screenshots

I personally believe that John should keep IE 7 and check his blog errors accordingly with it :)

Hi John, Thanks for sharing the problem. I was having similar problem with one of the themes of my blogs. Did you experience any compatibility problems with Firefox 2.0 ?

    hi john
    Thitar is absolutely right!!!!
yesterday i saw in my cousin PC that fantastic program!!
u can install a new OS and use it instead of the original OS,so u can install an old version of windows XP with IE6 and test it on it..
and one click!! (Fullscreen) and u r on a new windows, minimize and u back to the original windows(u can also still access the virtual OS in a small window!)
    Good Luck

I think you should advise/recommend your visitor to use Firfox. Give them good damn hacks about Firefox.

JohnTP you are right at your part too :) Your blog should be completely compatible with IE 6 but as far as i have experienced if your blog template is compatible with either of IE 6 or 7 it will be compatible with the other one too or even if there is a difference it wont be much then 5% to 10%

My blog was completely compatible with Opera in the start, then i had to tweak it for Firefox and IE 6 and 7

Even still my blog gets a little distorted if there is a very long link in a post (Happens in IE 6 and 7 only) and yet i cannot figure out what to do with it

But considering Firefox is the word of mouth nowadays I have ensured that my blog is fully compatible with firefox if not with other browsers

IE7 have got lot of features compatible with mozilla and other freewares, which are not avaiable with IE6, however IE7 is worst when compared with mozilla :D.

You made a right move, install IE7 when no of visitors using IE6 comes low, but I don’t think it will come in near future due to problems with IE7.

Dj Flush- My new design worked well with IE 7 except for a slight problem. But in IE 6 the design was completely messed up :(

If you make your theme compatible in IE 6, it may also display well on all other browsers.

Srinivasa Ramanujam- Yes, I decided to remove IE 7 and install IE 6.
