What is the meaning of the term ‘ProBlogger’?

ADVERTISEMENTS

I have been asking myself this question for some time now. I did a quick search on Google for “define: problogger” but it showed no results.

Then I started asking many bloggers including LiewCF for the meaning. From them I understood that the term ‘ProBlogger’ has got no fixed meaning.

For different bloggers it has different meanings. For some, the term means ‘Full-Time Blogger’ and for some it means ‘Professional Blogger’.

Finally I asked Darren Rowse, the ProBlogger, from problogger.net. This was his reply -

to me it means I do it professionally - i.e I do it as a job - its my profession

I guess it’s like a lot of words - multiple meanings to different ppl

So from now onwards ‘ProBlogger’ means Professional Blogger to me :)

What does the term ‘ProBlogger’ mean to you?

To some people, professional means something you make money doing. To others it means something that you are trained or skilled in. Furthermore, some people believe you need to do it full time. The line gets skewed from one personal to another.

Personally, I feel if you make more money than you are putting out in costs from blogging, then yes you are a professional blogger.

Since I’m from academics the term professor/professional refers to one who works, not as a job, but as a satisfaction to his soul. If you are interested, please refer to this pdf.

Pro most of the times stands for professional. And in my opinion, it is someone who knows what he is doing and is not an amature. I disagree with Srinivasa that it has anything to do with soul.

e.g. I may be a professional driver and may not like my job. But I am trained, have experience and know what I am doing.

“A professional is the one who does things not because he got to do it, but because he loves it”
“He don’t work on 8 to 5 basis, but work continuously even when he is sleeping”
“A professional ‘profess’, and not ‘works’”

The above are few extracts collected from various sources and perspectives of professionals and professors.

It’s a basic concept if you ask me. “Pro Blogger” is anyone that can live off the income they make from blogging. Duh! :)

A person who thinks only about blogging but nothing else can be called as professional blogger. It may not be because he is getting money from it, but because he loves blogging.
