My Top 10 Favorite Firefox Extensions

ADVERTISEMENTS

Firefox is my favorite Browser and one of the things I like about it is the support for extensions. Here I have listed out my Top 10 favorite Firefox Extensions.

  1. DownThemAllFirefox has an inbuilt download manager, but you have probably noticed that it sometimes hangs when you try to resume a download. DownThemAll is the solution- it can even resume downloads from previous Firefox Sessions.

    Download DownThemAll

  2. Session SaverAs you know, closing Firefox closes all the tabs. They do not re-open the next time you start Firefox. Session Saver restores the browser to exactly where you last left it.

The settings can be altered from Tools>SessionSaver>Settings. Chose Expert mode for better details, and put a checkmark next to ‘Every startup from’,’Existing windows’,’And tabs’,’When restoring, join multiple windows into one’,’Save a session-backup on shutdown’, and ‘Allow me to “re-open” closed tabs’.

    Download Session Saver

  3. FlashblockFlash-based ads can be very irritating, and also takes up your bandwidth. The extension will appear whenever it detects and blocks Flash content. The blocked content is replaced with a play button, so you can choose to play the blocked Flash-based content.

    Download Flashblock

  4. AdblockAdblock can be used to block all advertisements and popups. I also use it so that I don’t accidently click my Adsense Ads ;)

    Download Adblock

  5. Tab Mix PlusTab Mix Plus enhances Firefox’s tab browsing capabilities. It includes such features as duplicating tabs, controlling tab focus, tab clicking options, undo closed tabs and windows, plus much more. It also includes a full-featured session manager with crash recovery that can save and restore combinations of opened tabs and windows.

    Download Tab Mix Plus

  6. Faster FoxFasterfox allows you to tweak many network and rendering settings such as simultaneous connections, pipelining, cache, DNS cache, and initial paint delay.

Dynamic speed increases can be obtained with the unique prefetching mechanism, which recycles idle bandwidth by silently loading and caching all of the links on the page you are browsing.

    Download FasterFox

  7. Google ToolbarGoogle Toolbar with many features such as Enhanced Search Box, Safe Browsing, SpellCheck and AutoFill.

  8. ImgLikeOperaImgLikeOpera lets you load images from Cache. This extension is very useful for dial-up users and people with restrictions in Bandwith like me.

    Download ImgLikeOpera

  9. FireFTPIf you regularly browse FTP sites, then you definitely need FireFTP, an FTP client that greately eases file browsing and copying. You can right-click on an FTP link and then choose to open it with FireFTP. FireFTP opens your machine’s file browser on the left pane and the FTP site on the right pane of the browser. You can even drag and drop files between the two.

    Download FireFTP

  10. IE TabThis extension is for IE lovers and for those IE-only Web sites. It loads Internet Explorer into Firefox tabs. This is a great tool for web developers, since you can easily see how your webpage is displayed in IE with just one click and then switch back to Firefox.

    Download IE Tab

Hmmm, I can’t believe I hadn’t heard about ImgLikeOpera before (especially since I’m on dial-up). Thanks for the link John :)

I prefer GoogleBar Lite to the standard GoogleBar because it is easier on the memory. I find that it is really all that I need.

    My list is up.

DownThemAll sounds nice. I wish it were available for SeaMonkey. I’m not going to endure FireFox just for a decent download manager.

Personally, the only extensions I use are LiveHTTPHeaders (yeah geeky), SpellBound (yeah I can’t spell), and FlashBlock (yeah I hate Flash).

I’ve used Fasterfox for quite a while now, and though it occasionally slows down new pages I visit, pages I regularly visit it speeds up surfing a LOT!

I’ve found a link for a tweaked version of Fasterfox, called rather cheesly Fastererfox. It allows you to grab web pages even faster with some new options which can be changed by the rather cool sounding “Thrash” option in the properties box.
