Why PageRank will not increase your sites traffic

ADVERTISEMENTS

Many first time bloggers are more interested and spend most of their time trying to get a high PageRank for their new blog or site.

Actually getting a PageRank of about 4 or 5 for a new site is fairly easy. Just post good content and you will be rewarded with lots of backlinks and a good PageRank. Although, it must be kept in mind that a PR of about 7 and above is not easy and requires a lot of hard work. It may take years to progress from PR 7 to PR 8. For example, here’s a good HTML tutorial site that I have seen stuck with PR 7 for about 3 years.

But even with a PR 7 ranking site you are not guarranteed to recieve tons of traffic.

So why does PageRank not increase your site’s traffic?

  • The first reason is that your site’s pages may not be optimized for the right keywords or is targeting keywords that nobody searches for.
  • The “anchor text” of incoming links may not be targeting the right keywords. A lot of people ignore the importance of using “anchor text”.
  • The “anchor text” of internal links (links within your site) may not be keyword optimized. A lot of people just use text like “about” or “contact” as the anchor text for these important internal links.
  • Your site may have landed in Google’s Sandbox for its main keywords. This can happen to new sites that are targeted to popular keywords. There is nothing that can be done to remove a site from the sandbox, except waiting for it to come out naturally. It may take about 8-9 months for your site to come out of the Google Sandbox.
