Want to grow your business FAST using Facebook ads?

Are you making these Facebook ad mistakes?

Mistake #1: Focusing On Clicks And Not Sales

Have you ever seen Facebook ads with red borders and arrows?

bad Facebook ads

These ads will make you lose money instead of making it.

Why? Because all they do is get you clicks…not customers.

Justin Brooke quote

If you want to create profitable Facebook ads, acquire customers…NOT clicks.

Ads with red borders and arrows get attention and get clicked on, but they may not end up buying.

So you spend more and earn less…and to create profitable Facebook ads, you need to make more than you spend.

And the way to do that is to acquire customers…not clicks.

Mistake #2: Focusing On The Wrong Metrics

When advertising on Facebook, are you focusing on CTR or the conversion rate on your squeeze page? These are the wrong metrics to focus on if you want a profitable Facebook ad.

Why? If people are clicking on your ad BUT not buying, you are wasting your money.

If you are getting leads but they don’t buy, you are wasting your money.

Its sales that matters, NOT clicks!

You don’t want just any lead too, you want buyers lead.

Stop wasting money on trying to get any traffic/click/lead and focus on acquiring customers for your business.

The Two Metrics You Need To Focus On Are:

1) cost of acquiring a customer
2) immediate customer value

Ryan Deiss quote

1) What is your Cost of Acquiring a customer?

This is how you calculate your cost of acquiring a customer –

TOTAL COST divided by NEW CUSTOMERS

Once you get a customer, there a high chance he or she will buy from you again. So focus on acquiring customers. I will explain in a minute on how you can do this with Facebook ads.

2) What is your Immediate Customer Value?

As long as you make more than you spend, you will have a profitable Facebook ad.

Optimize your sales funnel to make more than you spend. Low dollar offers like a $7 product are good for recovering the cost of advertising and turning the lead into a customer…but they are not good for making a profit.

So make sure you have high ticket offers too. Its easier to have a profitable Facebook ad campaign if you have them.

As long as you make more than you spend, you will have a profitable Facebook ad.

As long as your cost of acquiring a customer is less than your immediate customer value, you will have a profitable Facebook ad.

How to acquire customers with Facebook ads?

Make an irresistible low dollar offer ($7 to $20) as soon as someone enters their email in the squeeze page.

Low dollar offers are good for recovering the cost of advertising and turning the lead into a customer.

Mistake #3: Lumping All Age Groups, Genders, And Interests In One Campaign

Do you find anything wrong in the below image?

lumping age groups, genders and interests

In case you haven’t noticed, all the age groups, genders and interests are lumped into one campaign.

Justin Brooke

Most Facebook advertisers make this expensive mistake.

If you do this, you will have no idea what converts and what doesn’t.

To create a profitable Facebook Ad, avoid targeting all age groups, interests and genders in one campaign.

If you target all the age groups, interests and genders in one campaign you wont know which converted (becomes a customer).

You wont have any idea whats making you money and whats losing you money.

So what should you do? Test them out in different campaigns to find what converts.

Use Facebooks conversion pixels to find what converts and what doesn’t. Disable the campaigns that don’t convert and scale the ones that do convert.

This will increase your ROI.

Mistake #4: Sending Cold Paid Traffic To A Squeeze Page

molly-pittman-quote

Driving cold paid traffic straight to a squeeze page or a sales page is a mistake. Why? Because cold traffic do not know, like or trust you.

So driving cold traffic to a squeeze page or sales page gets you a lower conversion.

So what do you do instead? Drive the cold paid traffic to a valuable piece of content which they can access without having to opt-in (like a blog post).

By doing this:

  • you get people to know, like and trust you
  • you establish yourself as an authority
  • you offer value in advance before asking for anything (opt-in or buy)

This turns cold traffic to warm traffic…which means:

  • people are more likely to opt-in when you drive them later to a squeeze page
  • people are more likely to buy
  • people are more likely to open and click your email after they opt-in

Want to turn cold paid traffic into leads and sales?

  1. send the paid traffic first to a relevant and useful blog post
  2. within the blog post, link to the squeeze page multiple times using text links and images (like I have done in this blog post)
  3. once someone opts-in on the squeeze page, make low dollar offers (to turn the leads to customers)

Here’s how I do it:

high converting ad campaign

Within your blog post, you can link to your squeeze page to drive traffic to it. Since you provided value first, they are more likely to opt-in now.

Remember:

Blog post + Squeeze page = More leads

Blog posts can bring you free leads

Another advantage of driving paid traffic to content is that it increases the chance of your content being shared, which means you get traffic, leads and sales for free!

Tip: Increase the chance of your blog post being shared by using the SumoMe plugin (or something similar), click to tweet and by asking readers to share at the end of the blog post.

Which do you think people are more likely to share? A blog post or a squeeze page?

Mistake #5: Not Retargeting

First, what is retargeting? Retargeting is basically a piece of code that you can place on any page of your website and when a visitor lands on that page, it will put a cookie into their browser that allows you to track them around the web and display ads to them.

You can use retargeting to get people to come back when they haven’t taken an action that you want them to take on your website (like opt-in or buy).

Here’s how it works:

retargeting

Like I said earlier, within your blog post you can link to your squeeze page to drive traffic to it.

BUT here’s the thing – not everyone is going to land on your squeeze page from your blog post and not everyone who lands on your squeeze page will opt-in, which is why you need to make use of retargeting.

Also not everyone who finds out about your product/service the first time will buy. So make sure you remind them using retargeting and email follow ups.

A tip from Jason Hornung is to send them straight back to the order form…

jason hornung quote

A tip from Jon Loomer is to give a special price to specific website visitors only…

Want to create profitable Facebook ads? Don’t skip retargeting!

If you aren’t retargeting, you are leaving money on the table.

Why? Because most people do not buy the first time they are made an offer. Retargeting helps you remind them of the offer.

Sure you can remind people via email (after they opt-in)…but not every email is opened and not every opened email is clicked. There’s also the possibility of your emails not being delivered, landing in the SPAM folder, etc

With retargeting, your messages have a higher chance of being seen.

Tip: You can target JUST those who did not opt-in or buy and show them ads to remind them.

Retargeting helps turn your blog visitors into leads and leads into customers and customers into repeat buyers!

If you want a high ROI with your Facebook ads, do not avoid retargeting. Also make sure to not just retarget on Facebook but across the web.

Things To Remember:

  1. its sales that matters, NOT clicks!
  2. as long as you make more than you spend, you will have a profitable Facebook ad.
  3. as long as your cost of acquiring a customer is less than your immediate customer value, you will have a profitable Facebook ad.
  4. optimize your sales funnel to make more than you spend.
  5. don’t target all age groups, interests and genders in one campaign. Test them out in different campaigns to find what converts.
  6. send cold paid traffic to a blog post first, and then to a squeeze page. This will increase your conversions (more leads and sales)
  7. ALWAYS make use of retargeting
  8. Make sure you retarget across the web (not just on Facebook) or you will be leaving a lot of money on the table.

Once you apply what you learned here, you will be creating profitable Facebook ads 🙂
